Our Lady's & St Kevins Asylum, Co Cork, Ireland, April 2010
Well....... as the Road Trip 2010 wore on and we had a few 'fails' we were hoping for a more relaxed explore. We arrived in Cork on the Wednesday morning and set about finding a way into this asylum.
Sadly, St Kevins has now been steel sheeted all round.... by steel sheeted.... I mean 8mm thick steel sheets! There really isnt a way in without either a key or a large set of ladders to the upper windows!

Because of the uber sheets..... the only secca we saw was the Horse.... and the chavs. Even they couldnt find a way in!

Moving on we walked downhill to Our Ladys Asylum. What a stunning place it mustve been in its day! Even now, the conversion job is retaining the character of the place.

Inside Our Ladys, one third is fully developed and has folks living there. One third is nearing completion and has builders there constantly. The last part ..... the Eastern Wing is totally stripped for conversion.

It still has some nice features though....

Like these Barred Staircases

The part nearing completion, I asked the builders if I could photograph the main stairway which was just about done with being spruced up for its new home

This corridor used to link the two buildings

In the middle of the corridor, you will find this ..... the lovely St Kevins Chapel.

Which is rather lovely inside

With a lovely organ.....

Enjoy folks .... this place will be sealed tight for a while with those sheets!
